LNW 3380: SALLUST SELECTIONS
We will read selections from the works of Sallust: The Bellum
Catilinae, the Bellum Jugurthinae, and the Histories. We will
also work intensively on critical reading and writing skills.
MWF period 2, 8:30-9:20 am

Textbooks
1. Sallust. OCT Volume.
2. Strunk and White, Elements of Style, 3rd Edition.
Grades
25%= 8 quizzes on the Latin readings
20%= first examination
20%= second examination
10%= 5 quizzes on Strunk and White
10%= analysis of a scholarly article
15%= 2500 word final paper: for full credit, you must hand
in the draft and
final papers ON TIME.
Policies
1. Your perfect attendance is expected.
2. You are expected to read Latin from a clean text at
all times. Should you require aids, they must be in your own hand
writing, on a separate piece of paper. I reserve the right to
inspect for clean texts, and dismiss a student who has a marked text.
3. There will be no make up work except in
extraordinary and documented cases.
4. Students requesting classroom accommodation must first
register with the Dean of Students Office. The Dean of Students Office
will provide documentation to the student who must then provide this
documentation to the Instructor when requesting accommodation.
5. The use of cellular devices during class is
strictly prohibited. Refusal to comply results in immediate
dismissal from class.
6. Academic Honesty is expected at all times. We, the members of
the University of Florida community, pledge to hold ourselves and our
peers to the highest standards of honesty and integrity . On all work
submitted for credit by students at the university, the following
pledge is either required or implied: "On my honor, I have neither
given nor received unauthorized aid in doing this assignment."
