TSL 3370 Introduction to TESL
Looking for TESL Waves to Surf
The starting point to catch your waves is at Tman's TESOL Page
Surfer Dude Activity1.(Due Friday Feb. 20)
To get you started, go to the activities section of Tman's
TESOL Page. Surf through each of the sites linked there. Be sure to
try out every wave so you can see how the activities work. Who knows what
beach you will land on. When you are done, submit
to me a TOP 5 ranking of the sites where you started your surfing adventures.
After each ranking, be sure to include a paragraph telling me what you
liked about the site to make you give it the ranking you did.
Surfer Dude Activity 2 (Due Friday Feb. 27)
This may be more of a boogie board activity, just a little tamer. To help
you learn how teachers and researchers share ideas about how to use computers
to teach English, return to Tman's
TESOL Page and go to the online journals. Surf (or boogie) through
the journals, taking note of what you found most interesting and useful
to you as a prospective teacher. Read at least one article in three different
online journals. When you are finished, submit
to me your TOP 5 ranking of the journals in the same format you used
in part 1, i.e. include paragraphs explaining your rankings. At the end
include bibliographic reference (author, title, URL) and a summary paragraph
of the three articles you read, including what you found interesting about
the article.
Surfer Dude Activity 3. (Due Friday March 6)
Now that you have a good feel for your surfboards, it is time to try the
big waves the pros use. Go to the teaching resources section of Tman's
TESOL Page. These waves lead you to collections of teaching ideas,
lesson plans, and online materials which can be used in the classroom.
You may be surprised at what you find. You may find some great ideas to
use in your warm ups or show and tells for class. When you are done, submit
to me a TOP 5 ranking of the sites you found most useful/stimulating/surprising/
or whatever. This is a freebee. You choose the criteria. Just be sure to
state your criteria and include a paragraph with each selected site to
explain your ranking.
Happy Surfing.
