Medieval Latin
Course Number: LNW 3490. General Education Requirement: HN. Section: 07B9. Credits: 03. Room: NSC 0225. Times: T 9-11. CLA 3160 Medieval Latin is a course offered in the Department of Classics at University of Florida. Department contact: Ms. Tina Williams.
Course Description
The course is an introduction to Medieval Latin in its cultural and historical context for students who have completed at least two years of Classical Latin. Students will read in the original from a selection of texts illustrating important aspects of Medieval culture, history, literature, philosophy, religion, and language. The grammatical and lexical peculiarities of Medieval Latin will be discussed. The course will also involve a small practicum in codicology and palaeography intended to introduce students to the study of manuscripts.

Additional readings will be distributed by the instructor.
Course Requirements and Grading
Two translation exams based on the readings completed in class (see below, Calendar of Assignments). Class performance will also be graded.
- Exam I: 40%.
- Exam II: 40%.
- Class Performance: 20%.

Class Etiquette
Students are strongly discouraged from leaving during class. Those who need to do so must obtain the instructor's permission at the beginning of class.
