| The most widely reproduced image of Ismaël Boulliau (1605-1694) first appeared in print in one of the monuments of seventeenth- century iconography, Charles Perrault's Les hommes illustres (Paris 1696- 1700). The engraving that first appeared there is by Pieter van Schuppen (1623?-1702), 'le petit Nanteuil,' reportedly after a portrait by his son, Jacob van Schuppen (1670-1751). |
