Lab II on Microfossils: ostracods, foraminifera,
conodonts, sponge spicules, etc.
Notice: The class was divided
into two groups for the two Micropaleontology labs. Those assigned to meet
with Dr. Ciesielski will work on smaller microfossils. The following week
the T.A.s will conduct a lab on larger microfossils.
Meeting Place for labs: Regular meeting
place to begin the lab.
Objectives:

To observe and acquaint you with the aforementioned
fossil groups by:

observation in a transmitted light microscopeor
-
observation in a reflected light microscope, and
by
-
examination of representative line drawings andmicrographs.
Preparation:
-
come prepared to take notes
-
read your lecture notes on these fossil groups prior to coming to lab
-
bring you lecture handouts on foraminifera
Lab Emphasis:
-
Emphasis will be placed on planktic and benthic foraminifera
-
Although ostracods and condonts have not been discussed in lecture,we will
introduce them to you so you are familiar with their general characteristics.
