Research Experience
Master's Research, University of Oxford, 2001-2002:
The Viability of Viral Gene Sequences as Markers of Human Population
History. Investigated hypotheses of codivergence between HTLV-I
& II, GBV-C, JC virus and HPV-16 with their human host populations
using predominantly phylogenetic techniques; comparative analysis of
viral and host phylogenies to determine utility of viral sequences as
surrogates to mtDNA or autosomal DNA in determining human population
history.
Research Interests
I am interested in evaluating the genetic diversity within modern human
populations in an effort to discern population history in relation to
population migrations, colonizations and the codivergence of
population, language and culture. This research will focus on the use
of phylogenetic techniques and the inclusion of multiple datasets,
namely Y-chromosome, autosomal, mtDNA and viral gene sequences, so as
to develop as comprehensive and complete evaluation as possible.
Obviously this is overly ambitious.
