Announcements: The Norton Anthology of American Literature, Short Edition,Volume II: 1865-Present is now available at Wild Iris.

I am a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Florida, and I work with American literature written before the Civil War. My interests include captivity narratives (including slave narratives), sentimental novels, and work studies (especially in relation to the labor of women, slaves, and servants). During the Spring 2008 semester, I am teaching an American Literature II class entitled "'America' at the Margins."

In my dissertation, I will study how American women authors envisioned women's working bodies and responded to the changing location of work in early American novels. In particular, I am curious about how the growth of modern capitalism and a Protestant work ethic changed family dynamics and social relationships.
