What I'm up to...
Research
- Making good progress on two book projects, with my monograph, In Newspeak's Wake: Language Culture and Politics from Glasnost to Social Media, under consideration for publication at a major American university press and an edited volume devoted to Digital Russia also close to being contracted as well.
- 2012 saw the publication of three book chapters came out over the summer—my article on the economies
of obscenity in the post-Soviet 1990s ("Language Culture and Identity in post-Soviet Russia...), a piece on ex-President Dmitry Medvedev and Twitter ("Medvedev's New Media Gambit: The Language of Power in 140 Characters or Less"), and a study of the rhetorical style of
Vladimir Putin in the collection Putin as Celebrity and Cultural Icon.
- The spring promises to be a busy travel
season, with invited lectures scheduled at Duke, University of
Virginia, William & Mary, and Stetson, and a month-long visiting
research fellowship at the Centre for Russian and Eurasian Studies at
Uppsala University, Sweden.
