1. In this article Wineburg compares the "familiar past" with the "strange and inaccessible past" (pp. 6,7)?  What does he mean by these two terms and why doe he contrast them?

2. Wineburg concludes his essay by noting that history presents us with a choice to learn about rhinoceroses or unicorns?  What does he mean by this odd metaphor?
