Antecedents and Consequences of Wrongful Conviction:

In this newer line of research, we are investigating causes and consequences of wrongful conviction. Many of the cases of known wrongful convcition actually had more than one cause contributing to the wrongful conviction. We are investigating how these causes might not be independent. For example, we are examining whether learning about a damaging piece of evidence changes the way investigators approach obtaining other pieces of evidence. In addition, we are examining whether damaging evidence affects the decisions of other witnesses.  In examining the consequences of wrongful conviction, we are investigating whether exonerees are likely to experience stigma upon release.
