Social Influence and Eyewitness Identification
Psychological research on social influence has
demonstrated that information from another person can affect peoples'
own decisions, especially in a difficult task. In an eyewitness
situation, crime is often witnessed by more than one person, and
witnesses may share information throughout the investigation process.
Past research suggests that two eyewitnesses who share information may
affect each other's memories for the event. In this line of research,
we are investigating the role of social influence in the witnesses'
identification decisions.
