2006-2007 Grad Students: Sara Alvarez, Dr. Altmann, Susan Leon, Kathy Shephard, Sarah Key-DeLyria

 

Dr. Lori J. P. Altmann, Ph.D.

Dr. Altmann is the principal investigator of the Language over the Lifespan Lab. She is currently an Assistant Professor in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) at UF. She is also affiliated with the VA RR&D Brain Rehabilitation and Research Center at the North Florida-South Georgia VA Medical Center and is coordinator of the UF Language and Brain Interest group.

Dr. Altmann is a neurolinguist who is fascinated by the interaction between cognitive processes (such as memory and attention) and language production and by how changes in brain structures can affect both of these. 

Susan Leon, M.A., CCC-SLP

Ms. Leon is a Ph.D. student in CSD at UF. She is a licensed speech pathologist with a background in linguistics who received both her undergraduate degrees and her MA from UF. Ms. Leon has an interest in adult language disorders due to Alzheimer disease and stroke, and a special interest in the use of emotional language. 

Sarah Key-DeLyria, M.A.

Ms. Key-DeLyria is a Ph.D. student in CSD at UF. She has a BA in linguistics from Rice University and an MA in Speech-Language Pathology from UT-Austin where she earned her MA in August 2006.  Ms. Key-DeLyria is interested in the relationship between cognition, speech, and language.

 

Sara Alvarez is a graduate student in Speech-Language pathology at UF who is specializing in the problems of older adults.

Kathy Shephard is a graduate student in Speech-Language pathology at UF who has a special interest in reading disorders.

Claudia A. Morelli, PhD, CCC-SLP

Dr. Morelli received her PhD from UF in August 2006.  She is currently an Assistant Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Loyola College in Baltimore, MD.  Dr. Morelli has a strong interest in developing theory based treatments for word finding problems in people with dementia.

 

David B. Efros, M.S., CCC-SLP

Mr. Efros was the first lab manager for the Language over the Lifespan Lab. He came to us with a clinical background in working with older adults. He is interested in how impairments in parts of the brain not traditionally considered 'language areas' can affect language use.

 

 

D. Ashley Mullin, M.A.

Ms. Mullin completed her MA in Communication Sciences and Disorders at UF in  December 2005. She is currently completing her CFY at the North Florida-South Georgia VA Medical Center in Gainesville, FL.  Ashley also designed the lab logo.
