SYP 3000, 5923 - Society & the Individual

Final Evaluation- Spring 2002
Kristin E. Joos, Ph.D. Candidate

If you complete this Course Evaluation and return it to me by 12pm, Saturday, April 27th, you will receive Extra Credit-- 1 point if you respond to each question, 2 points if you provide a lot of feedback. I will NOT read the evaluations until AFTER grades have been submitted to the registrars office, though I will glance over them ONLY to see if you earned 1 or 2 points.

There are 2 options for submitting the evaluation:

  • 1. PASTE the evaluation with your responses into an email and send it no later than 12pm on Sat. 4/27.  (Warning: it won't be anonymous if you chose to email it). Please make sure that "Class Evaluation" and your name are in the subject line so that I can give you credit for taking the time to do the evaluation without actually reading what you wrote. Please do NOT send your evaluation as an attachment, instead, either paste or type your responses in the body of an email. Again, I will not read the evaluations until I've submitted your course grades to the registrar.
  • 2. Print it out and turn it in to the Sociology Dept office (3219 Turlington) before 5pm on Friday or anytime on Monday, 4/29. Do NOT write your name on this in order to protect your anonymity. IF you choose this option, you MUST also send me an email telling me that you turned it into the office (or that you are planning to) so that I can give you credit. I must receive this email no later than 12pm, Saturday, 4/27.
  • PLEASE answer these questions as completely as possible.
My advisor and I will be the only people to read this evaluation-- it is not for the department or the college, so you may speak about the course casually and personally. It is not necessary to speak in formalities or to refer to me as "the instructor" as I am your audience here.

This evaluation is a TOOL to help me improve my teaching. I am EAGER to hear your suggestions for how I can improve & changes that you think are needed. It is also very helpful to hear your comments about things that you enjoyed or that you thought I did well (if any).

I apologize if some of the questions seem a bit redundant. To be honest, I am really struggling with whether or not I should teach in the future. Its obviously not something I do for the pay-- and I'm becoming increasingly unsure as to whether or not its something that I'm "good" at-- so I would REALLY value your comments and opinions about what worked and how I can change.

Your feedback is highly valued.  I will take it into serious consideration when planning my future courses. Thank you for your participation this semester. I hope you got something out of the class:  a better understanding of the roles you play, your identities, and your "self," and how we interact with others to produce "society," to think critically about information and question the assumptions upon which arguments are based, and to consider the information personally relevant, applying it to your own life.
