The Japanese Dollby Bessie Cahoone Newton
(Little Folks' Magazine, July, 1912)He is not like my other dolls,
Because he's from Japan:
He wears queer bright Kimona clothes,
And calls himself "Ah Fan."He eats with tiny chop-sticks, too,
'Stead of a fork and spoon,
"Because," he says, "me can no learn
Eat Melican so soon!"The rest of my dear dolls don't like
His funny eyes and hair,--
But since I've told them he's a Jap,
They're trying not to care. And then, of course, it's funny, too
(He's not a lady doll),
That he should always have with him
A lady's parasol.Besides he's always pouring tea
From out a china pot:
He says, "Me wantee," all day long,
And "velly, velly hot!"Now every time I give his waist
A tiny little squeeze,
He says, "You takee me right home
Where dolls speak Japanese!"
