Thanks to an ebay friend (who wishes to remain anonymous) for sharing this photograph of the great baseball player admiring a Japanese doll. It looks as if the doll was a gift.

Babe Ruth visited Japan in 1934 with the American All-Stars and helped inspire the Japanese passion for baseball. Ruth died, of cancer,  in 1948, and it is possible that this picture was taken around 1946-48 when dolls of this type were popular with American GIs stationed in Japan. The doll could have been a gift from a group of soldiers or from the Japanese.
