The Jingle of a Jap, by Clara Bell Thurston, © 1906 by M.M. Caldwell Co.. The book was originally published in a slipcase with a small ichimatsu attached.The story follows out the plot of the Jappie Chappie and other "interracial" doll romances, but in the end the moral seems to be that the Japanese, however virtuous and clever, will be happier if they stay in Japan and don't try to make a life in the American doll-shelf. This might express the political nervousness of America right after the Russo-Japanese war.
The picture on the left below is used for the cover and the title page, with the picture of the Japanese doll and the wax doll facing it as a frontispiece; the picture on the right below faces a dedication page.
