Our goal is to improve Latin reading skills and to appreciate Ovid’s playful, complex and influential epic poem.  We will at the same time become acquainted with the historical and cultural context of Ovid’s text, and with the intricacies of his Latin.  Prerequisite: a 2000-level Latin class. NOTE: THE READINGS FOR THIS CLASS ARE IN LATIN. This course fulfills University of Florida general education requirements H (Humanities) and N (International).

evaluation
grades will be based on class participation, quizzes, exams and a final:

class participation = 10% of total grade: full credit will be given to students who come to class prepared to translate and discuss the assigned passages

weekly quizzes (non-cumulative): 6% each, best 10 of 11 = 60% of total grade

exams (non-cumulative): 15% each = 30% of total grade
