The aim of
this
course is to acquaint graduate students with archaic Greek, to
appreciate Homeric
poetry in its social and historical context, and to gain some
familiarity with with
Homeric scholarship. NOTE:

class participation (80%: coming to class prepared to translate and
discuss readings) and on completion of a brief (around 750 words)
abstract describing a paper that might be delivered at a scholarly
meeting (20%).
