The aim of this course is to acquaint students with archaic Greek, to appreciate Homeric poetry in its social and historical context, and to become acquainted with Homeric scholarship. NOTE: READINGS FOR THIS COURSE ARE IN ANCIENT GREEK

evaluation
participation: 80% of total grade
    come to class prepared to translate and discuss assigned readings
paper: 20% of total grade
    abstract (500-1000 words) defining a research/paper topic
    choose topic in consultation with instructor by Spring break (Feb. 27)
    hand in next-to-last class (Apr. 17)
