We will be reading selections from a variety of Latin poets from the Republican and Imperial periods. Our goal is to be able to render Latin accurately into English, and to appreciate each author’s style as well as the historical and cultural significance of the texts. PLEASE NOTE: READINGS FOR THIS CLASS ARE IN LATIN. ALL STUDENTS MUST HAVE COMPLETED TWO YEARS OF LATIN LANGUAGE.

evaluation
class participation = 10% of total grade: full credit will be given to students who come to class prepared to translate and discuss the assigned passages

weekly quizzes (non-cumulative); 6% each = 60% of total grade
