The aim of this course is to
increase reading comprehension in ancient Greek, to acquaint students
with archaic Greek poetry, and to appreciate epic poetry in its social
and historical
context. This course fulfills University of Florida General Education
Requirements H and N. NOTE:

evaluation: grades will
be based on class participation, quizzes, and two exams:
class participation = 10% of total grade: full credit will be given to students who
come to
class prepared to translate and discuss the assigned passages
quizzes (non-cumulative) = 60% of total grade:
11 brief unannounced quizzes will be administered at the beginning of
class throughout the semester, of which the BEST 10 will be used to
calculate the final grade. There are NO MAKEUPS for the quizzes.
