Course Description:

This class serves as an introduction to the fields of speech pathology and audiology. Topics will include human anatomy and physiology, articulation disorders, language development, language disorders, hearing, voice disorders, fluency, dialect and language variation, accent, and others.

 

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, students will:

  1. Understand basic anatomy and physiology of the speaking and hearing mechanisms.
  2. Understand the basic structure of all human languages and how they are acquired developmentally.
  3. Classify various speech, hearing and language disorders.
  4. Understand communicative disorders in the context of a multidialectal and multilingual society.

Grading Policies

 

Exams, quizzes, or assignments can be made up or taken late at a common time designated by the professor. The final exam is optional – if taken, it would be averaged with the other test grades.
