Hypermedia

Digital computing and the internet are not just new technologies but are part of a new "apparatus" that includes institutional formations and identity behaviors specific to new media. The fact that these forms and practices have to be invented and do not happen automatically is sometimes forgotten in the excitement about the capabilities of the technology. The focus of this course is on exploring the relationship among the three parts of the apparatus--to test the possibility that hypermedia is especially suited to support and augment creative thinking. We are learning about hypermedia by doing hypermedia. The semester project adapts new media to the traditional aim of the humanities discipline: self-knowledge.
