Discussion Group: Social Problems and SolutionsThe purpose of this on-campus discussion group is to create a space where students from all walks of life/disciplines/majors/interests can come together and discuss their ideas/feelings in an open, informal, and safe environment. The hope is that we can establish a sense of community on-campus that transcends the alienation a lot of students (including myself) feel here at UF. Specifically, we will meet weekly to discuss a variety of social problems we experience in the hopes of coming up with concrete and immediate ways of solving them through both personal changes and collective action. The topics to be discussed include capitalism, patriarchy, racism, heterosexism, medicine, the environment, education, cultural alienation, colonialism/imperialism, and militarization. There are two separate sessions of the discussion group: one meets on Mondays from 3-5pm in Turlington Plaza and the other meets on Thursday from 11:30am-1:30pm in Plaza of the Americas. There are absolutely no prerequisites/requirements for participating in the group; please feel free to come and join us whenever (and for however long) you please. Below you can find the latest schedule of discusison topics as well as the readings/multimedia for each topic. If you have any questions about the discussion group, please email me.
