David L. Reznik

I am a PhD student in the Department of Sociology at the University of Florida.
I am currently working on a dissertation project involving university students who dedicate themselves to helping homeless persons in their local communities. I am a founding member of both the Gator Homeless Coalition as well as Students for a Human Society.

I believe that the "social forces" which alienate us in our everyday lives (including capitalism, patriarchy, racism, etc.) all stem from a fundamental dishonesty pervading our society. We are taught to feel afraid of being honest with ourselves and each other, whereas I believe that it is only the truth which can set us free.

To that end, I struggle on a daily basis to be as honest as I can with myself and others about my thoughts, feelings, insecurities, vulnerabilities, etc. Although at times I feel disheartened by my infinite limitedness, I find the following mantra inspiring in helping me to continue the struggle: "Better and better everday and every way."

From this website, you can access information about the discussion group I am currently helping to facilitate and the Sociology of Religion course I taught last academic year. You can also download my CV and some of my writings. Please email me if you have any questions or wish to meet with me. I am very grateful for your time in reading a little about me.
