The Court Internship Program at the Alachua county Courthouse teaches students the administrative skills necessary to understand the workings of the Judicial System. This is accomplished by working within various divisions in the Clerk’s office: Appeals, Circuit Civil, County Civil, Circuit Criminal, County Criminal and Records Management. In addition to the experience gained from these departments, the interns spend time in the Court as well and are given access to all Courthouse facilities including John A.H. Murphree Law Library. Intern responsibilities vary from department to department but include report compilation, assistance to the Clerk, filing cases, informational retrieval in and out of the courtroom, compiling the docket, and assisting staff members who are serving the public. It is a program which offers much to the aspiring legal professional through an understanding of the Judicial System and an appreciation for the administrative skills which keep it running. The University of Florida is offering three (3) credit hours to students who are majoring in Criminal Justice or Political Science.
