Course Objectives
 
The course provides students with a historical introduction to the American Presidency. Special attention is given to the expectations of the Founding Fathers for the office and to analyzing the evolution of the office in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Along the way, we will also examine key people who held the office, the infrastructure that supports the office, changing public expectations of the president, the president's relationship with the press and congress, and presidential leadership in domestic and foreign affairs.
