Professor of History and Executive Director of the Reubin O'D. Askew Institute on Politics and Society. He is also Vice Provost and Senior Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Florida. He is the author of seven books, including most recently The African American Heritage of Florida. He is also a regular contributor to the Orlando Sentinel newspaper on issues involving state and national politics. From 1993 to 1997, he served as a Fellow in the United States Senate.
