My research considers strategic relations between branches of government, the politics of institutional choice, and the influence of short-term electoral incentives on countries’ long-term political trajectories. The majority of my work focuses on the former Soviet Union, including articles in Democratization, Europe-Asia Studies, Government and Opposition, Journal of Politics, and elsewhere. My
book, Elections by Design:
Parties and Patronage in Russia's Regions, examines the
process and consequences of electoral system design at the sub-national level in the Russian Federation. |
