Hello!
Welcome to the Geography Department and to the area of geography in which I specialize, Economic Geography. The courses that I teach emphasize the interdependence of countries, regions, and peoples in what has come to be known as the Global Economy.
My research interests are economic development, entrepreneurship*, and the organization of business enterprise in Africa and the African Diaspora. Click here to see an article on the New Generation of African Entrepreneurs.
Recently, I have begun studying Outsourcing to Africa as part of the global division of economic activities. I attended a conference in Ghana in May 2006 on African Business Development and presented a paper on Outsourcing to Africa, which won a Best Session Paper award. I attended the International Academy of Business and Development in Africa (IAABD) Conference in London in May-June 2007. The University of Florida hosted the IAABD Conference in May 2008.
I have conducted research on indigenous small-scale and medium-scale businesses in Ghana, West Africa and Black-owned businesses in the United States. Click on this link to read more about my research on Ghanaian entrepreneurs several years ago in CLAS Notes interview.
