There
will be three non-cumulative exams given in class. They will cover material
from the text books, lectures, including discussions, and films. Each exam will
have 20 true-false questions worth 0.5 points each and 20 multiple choice
questions worth 1 point each, for a total of 90 possible points for the three
exams. There is only one correct answer to each question. Scantron sheets will
be used in the exam. On them the code for the exam, your University of Florida
student ID and your name have to be entered, as well as the answers to the
questions. Use a #2 pencil and bring your student ID to the exam. There will be
no make-up exams except for medical reasons or official University business. Do
not be late for an exam, if any students have finished and left, you will not
be allowed to take the exam.
Approximately
half the questions on the exam will be from the Cultural Anthropology text book
(Kottak). Two true-false questions and one multiple choice question will be
taken from the quizzes on the Kottak website. The other half of the questions
will be from lectures, the issues in the Taking Sides book and films. There
will be some overlap as some material is covered both in books and lectures or
films. Exams will include map questions. You will need to indicate which number
on a map is closest to the place or culture asked about in the question. A good
idea is to copy a map from the Atlas that comes with the Cultural Anthropology
text book and mark places and cultures as they are talked about in class. For the
Cultural Anthropology text book, use the Chapter objectives from the Kottak web
site as a study guide, and the quizzes as a control that you have learned the
material. A study guide for other material will be posted on the website one
week before the exam.
