Angelique V. Nixon, Ph.D.Born and
raised in Nassau, Bahamas, Angelique V. Nixon received her Ph.D. in
English from the University of Florida in 2008, specializing in Caribbean
and Postcolonial Studies. Her research and teaching interests also include
African Diaspora Literatures, Postcolonial and Feminist Theories, Black
Cultural Studies, and Gender and Sexuality Studies. Her dissertation,
titled "Consuming Identities: Crosscurrents of Tourism, Diaspora,
and Mobility in Caribbean Literature and Culture," investigates
the material effects of tourism and neocolonialism on Caribbean cultural
production and identity. Angelique is currently a postdoctoral fellow in Africana Studies at New York University in the Department of Social and Cultural Analysis. Angelique has published both her scholarly and creative work. She has also given presentations on a variety of subjects including "Caribbean Literature and Culture," "Poverty in the Caribbean," "Gender and Sexuality in Dancehall Culture," "Embracing Difference across the African Diaspora," and "Black LGBTQ Identities," among others. Concerned with the ongoing struggle for social justice and equality, Angelique strives through her academic, creative, and community work to fight for social change.
