The Black Graduate Student Organization

  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Awards Celebration 2008, Co-Chair
    Organized the keynote speaker Farai Chideya and assisted in the planning of the program, which included awards, dinner, performances, and art displays; also organized community events leading up to the celebration - namely, coordinating the annual Artistic Expressions Contest for undergraduates and volunteering for the first MLK Art Gallery with Duval Elementary Fine Arts School, exhibited as "Monuments of a Movement" at UF Art Gallery.

  • President, 2005 to 2007
    Instrumental in the planning of numerous activities: namely these Annual Events: Grad Prep Workshop for undergraduate students of color, Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration (organized speakers for MLK 2006 -Angela Davis and for MLK 2007 - Amiri Baraka), Black History Month events, & Writer's Workshop, and Forums with varying topics, ex. "Hurricane Katrina and the Racial Divide" and "HIV/AIDS in the Black Community"; And organized several Community Service Projects, such as Recruiting for a College Reach Out Program for local middle & high school students, Supply Drive for Hurricane Katrina survivors living in Alachua County, Black History Month Kid's Day in East Gainesville, Tutoring at the Wilhemina Johnson Resource Center, and Dinner for the Gainesville Area AIDS Project, among others.

  • Institute of Black Culture, Black Student Leadership Conference, January 27th, 2007
    - Planning Committee: helped coordinate Keynote Speaker, Dr. Erna Brodber
    - Invited Speaker for the Roundtable Panel Discussion on Activism and Leadership

  • Black History Month Opening Ceremonies, February 2006
    Speaker on the topic ~ "Unity in the Black Community across the African Diaspora"

  • Black History Month Chair, February 2005
    Organized a Panel Discussion on "Black (Inter)nationalism, Civil Rights, and the Illusion of Equality" with UF Faculty Members, and A Film Screening and Discussion of S. Pearl Sharp's The Healing Passage - & participated in BHM Kid's Day

  • Writer's Workshop Coordinator, March 2005
