One of the most common uses for flowers in the Yucatan is to express one's faith. Where religious images are found, flowers are present to adorn and show honor.

Roses have special significance throughout Mexico because of their role in the miracle story of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Images of the Virgin are usually accompanied by roses, both real and artificial.

Ossuaries, which house the bones of the dead, have built in spaces for the purpose of keeping altars. Vendors sell flowers throughout the year in the cemetery because they are a key element in these arrangements.
