University of Florida International Center

Study abroad is the single utmost effective and dramatic experience you can have to broaden your international and intercultural awareness. The University of Florida (UF) and Autonomous University of the Yucatan (UADY) program in Merida, Mexico is an intensive learning experience that combines academic excellence with cross-cultural interaction. The university is committed to helping students acquire knowledge, skills and perspectives that empower them to live and work effectively in a multi-cultural world. UF and UADY have worked closely over many years to develop summer and semester-long exchange programs that take advantage of the unique and hospitable context of the Yucatan.

Our exchange program with the Autonomous University of Yucatan offers 9 semester hours of credit during the summer session (late June until early August), as well as semester and academic year options. This program has been in existence for 14 years and over 600 students have participated in it. It is a fun program with serious academic challenges to help you become proficient in Spanish and learn about the Yucatan of Mexico. The summer program combines intensive Spanish at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels with a course in either anthropology or tropical ecology. The academic year courses include Spanish, History, Linguistics, the Maya language, Literature, Archaeology, and Anthropology at the Autonomous University of the Yucatan. As a true exchange program, we also bring students from the University of Yucatan to the University of Florida during the academic year.
