Alin M. Ceobanu earned his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2004.  He joined the University of Florida faculty in the same year as an Assistant Professor, appointed with both the Department of Sociology and the Center for European Studies.  His research draws on large data sets and explores cross-nationally individual characteristics and contextual determinants of public attitudes towards immigrants, immigration policies and regimes, national attachments, and democratic support.  Current projects include investigating comparatively the link between various dimensions of national feelings and anti-immigrant sentiment in Eastern and Western European countries.  His most recent work was published in Social Science Research and Ethnic and Racial Studies.  An article examining the theories and research on public views towards immigrants and immigration control using multi-national survey data is in preparation for the Annual Review of Sociology (Vol. 36, 2010).  At the University of Florida, Dr. Ceobanu taught courses on Immigrants and Immigration Policies in Europe (graduate), Political Sociology, Nationalism and Ethnicity in Europe, and Culture and Identity in Europe.
