Undergraduate Physics Opportunity

The Department of Physics offers guaranteed employment for four entering students with an interest in physics. This employment provides an opportunity for students to experience the excitement of a research laboratory. - Award:
Students can earn up to $500 within an academic year.
Gene and Richard Garrett Award

Undergraduate Sudent Services, New Physics Building - Eligibility:
Award is made annually to an undergraduate physics major in good standing who: (1) is a US citizen; (2) has demonstrated financial need; (3) is preferably a senior but must have passed with a grade of C or better at least four standard physics courses beyond the complete first-year physics course sequence. - Award:
Approximately $500, depending on endowment earnings.
Ruth and Earl Sawyer Grant-In-Aid

Charles F. Hooper Memorial Awards

Awarded annually to senior graduate students in physics who have shown distinction in research and teaching. The Awards honor the memory of Professor Charles (Chuck) Hooper who made seminal contributions to the Department as Chair, as a distinguished researcher, and as a beloved mentor/teacher. - Award:
$250.
Tom Scott Memorial Award

Awarded annually to a senior graduate student in experimental physics who is judged to have the most outstanding research record of the qualified applicants. - Award:
Approximately $500, depending on endowment earnings.
Physics Teaching Assistant of the Year

Department Chair, New Physics Building - Eligibility:
Two awards made annually to graduate teaching assistants to recognize excellence in teaching. One award is made for teaching laboratory classes and the second for teaching discussion sections. - Award:
Typically two $100 awards are made, subject to available funding.
