U.S. Department of Education funded Title VI Foreign Language and Areas
Studies (FLAS) Fellowship

- Eligibility:
Academic year fellowships awarded to graduate students pursuing degrees
in any discipline with a concentration in African area studies. Students
are required to enroll in African language study. The eligible languages
offered at Florida are Akan, Amharic, Arabic, Swahili, Zulu/Xhosa, and
Yoruba. Students must have been accepted to the disciplinary department
of their choice prior to being considered for an award.
- Award:
One award of $14,000 plus all tuition/fees renewable for 3 years. Applications
due by February 1st each year.
Summer Foreign Language Intensive Study Fellowships

- Eligibility:
Summer fellowships are awarded to graduate students who are pursuing
degrees with a concentration in African area studies to undertake intensive
language study at any USDOE Title VI approved institution.
- Award:
$2,400, plus tuition at the host institution. Travel awards may also
be available. Applications due by February 1st each year.
David L. Niddrie Memorial Scholarship

- Eligibility:
Given for the best proposal in any discipline by a UF graduate student
who is intending to conduct field research in Africa. This award is
contingent on the possibility of other travel support to Africa.

$500
