Ambassador Program Draws Student Support

Students visiting the Academic Advising Center will be greeted by a new sight: peers acting as guides to the advisement process.

The Ambassador Program is a collaborative effort supported by Student Government and the Center. Started during the Fall 2009 semester, the program quickly became an important facet of the services offered by the Center.

“The Ambassadors enthusiastically embraced their assignments and always lobbied to do more” said Albert Matheny, the Dean of the Advising Center.

Ambassadors now assist in a variety of center programs, including Transfer Preview, UF Admissions recruitment, and the Major/Minor Fair.

Competition to participate in the program is fierce. When the Ambassadors announced 17 available positions for the spring, they received over 130 applications. Applicants will be rigorously interviewed and the selected ambassadors will then be trained on all aspects of the program.

Dean Matheny is impressed with the interest the program has developed.

"It shows how interested the students are in getting involved in helping their fellow students and in helping CLAS. They are finding out that the more you give, the more you get."
