Jim and Alexis Pugh Hall opens in the heart of UF’s historic district

Jim and Alexis Pugh Hall opened for business January 7, as the University of Florida kicked off its spring term.  The 40,000-square-foot facility has been constructed over the past year in the heart of UF’s historic district, between Newell and Dauer Halls, and houses the Department of African and Asian Languages and Literatures, the Bob Graham Center for Public Service, and the Samuel Proctor Oral History Program.

“We are most impressed with the design,” said benefactor and namesake Jim Pugh, a 1963 UF alumnus and owner of Epoch Properties, an Orlando-based company that builds timeshares, hotels and rental housing. “It’s a new building in the old part of campus with a timeless design, so it fits in nicely among the beautiful old buildings.”

Landscaping and decorating are among the few finishing touches to be completed on the lovely new structure. Classes have started meeting in the facility and faculty and staff and are in the process of moving in to their new home. A formal dedication ceremony has been set for February.
