Pre-Health Information

Professional programs do NOT require students to major in any one particular area. Health professions schools do not prefer one over another, and value well-rounded and educated applicants. Students choose a major based on their strengths, interests, and personality. As long as admission requirements are met students may be in any major and still apply and be accepted to professional healthcare programs. Major in whatever you find interesting and exciting. Applicants will be evaluated on the rigor of courses taken and the number of credits taken each semester, not merely on the number of majors or minors. Completing two majors and/or two minors will NOT make you more competitive.

UF Pre-Health students interested in healthcare professions engage in a holistic process of exploring, preparing, evaluating and applying to healthcare professional programs. Our students seek admission to professional programs in the medical (MD, DO, DPM, DC, ND), dental, veterinary, pharmacy, physician assistant, physical and occupational therapy, optometry, and allied health professions.

Admissions committees look for applicants who maintain a strong sense of balance in their life among academics, entrance exam scores, and extracurricular activities (sports, arts, community volunteer activities). Although many health professions schools focus on pre-requisites in the science and math disciplines, preparation for admission is not in any way limited to these areas. Pre-Health advisors are available to assist students in their process of exploring, preparing, evaluating and applying to healthcare professional programs. Our goal is the student's goal:

To assist and support students in a holistic process of education and preparation to achieve the most competitive application for admission as is possible by the individual student.

Students submit applications when they have the strongest application possible. Do not compare yourself to other students; prepare yourself well, producing your strongest application.
