Hialugihïtï (MT-FX-13) is a unique second order
village (about 15-20 ha), a “hub,” with one central and one
secondary plaza and at least three major curbed roads. The settlement is
surrounded by one peripheral (semi-circular ditch) and one internal ditch
of similar form. There is only limited evidence of domestic refuse, although
the “crystalline” structural elaboration of the site is remarkable,
including roads that link with residential centers and secondary plazas.
One short internal ditch is present between the plaza and the small ponds
that show evidence of artificial reworking, including raised causeways.
Radiocarbon dates place the initial site occupation c. AD 1000 and primary
(or final) earthwork construction after AD 1250. |
