Dr. Mark Brenner is a limnologist and paleolimnologist with special interests in tropical and subtropical lakes and watersheds.  He uses sediment cores from lake bottoms to reconstruct the history of aquatic ecosystems and their drainage basins.  These sediment profiles record information on past climate change and anthropogenic environmental impacts.  The research is collaborative and multidisciplinary, involving palynology, sediment geochemistry, microfossil analysis, and radiometric dating.  Dr. Brenner has worked on numerous projects supported by the National Science Foundation, NASA, United States Geological Survey, and the Florida Water Management Districts.
