College of Medicine

"I hope to learn what biological research is truly like, as well as how I can use my experiences in the lab to make me a better student. I would also like to make a groundbreaking discovery that would win my mentor and myself a Nobel Prize, but would be quite content and delighted with JUR publication."

Colin is a senior majoring in integrative biology, with a minor in English. His research interests include biomedicine, genetics and cell biology. He is a member of the pre-health honorary Alpha Epsilon Delta and the American Medical Students Association. He is also an Eagle Scout and a member of the Student Honors Organization.

Research Description:

Daxx Degradation

The protein Daxx has been found to be involved in the regulation of p53, which plays a critical role in tumor suppression. In my research, I seek to find out how p53 and other proteins (including p53 analogs such as p73) influence the degradation of Daxx in the cell. I will be using technologies such as Western blotting and immunoflourescent techniques, among others. Since p53 is so important to tumor suppression, finding out more about proteins involved in its function will be an integral part of finding cancer treatments involving p53.
