Research Description:

Sustainable Design

Current concern for the population growth and conumption of finite natural resources has instigated necessary efforts to evaluate the human interface with the natural environment. The study of this human/nature interface in Architecture is known as Sustainable Design. Sustainable design is a vast field of study heavily rooted in the science of Ecology that offers a new perspective for design and construction.

Through the University Scholars Program, I will research the evolution of Sustainable design in architecture from an ecological perspective. I will define my own understanding of sustainability and explore its relevance to design through a series of design competitions. To explore various applications of sustainable design, I will visit relevant architectural exhibits of noted designers and projects. I will also tour constructions that have been officially termed 'sustainable structures'.
