"I applied to the USP because I really think my project can benefit our community and I am interested in teaching. I hope to learn what it takes to create and guide an ensemble and I also hope to learn to effectively communicate with high school music students."
Megan is a junior majoring in music performance, with a minor in history. She has been on the President’s Honor Roll, and her academic interests focus on the music history, particularly in regards to the clarinet. She is in the Gator Marching Band and the Florida Clarinet Choir. She also enjoys to travel and cook.
Research Description:
The Florida Youth Clarinet Choir
This project will focus on creating and teaching a clarinet choir comprised of students from North Central Florida high schools. Auditions will be held for entrance into this group and practices will be held semi-weekly in the fall. The project will culminate in a public performance held in the University Auditorium. In addition to creating this group I will also be forming a website to facilitate communication with these students. In addition, I will also be arranging a piece for the clarinet choir that the group will practice and hopefully perform. However, the main intent of this project is to encourage learning and music in these high school students and to give them a unique and valuable performance opportunity.
