"The USP has allowed me to continue ongoing research with my mentor, Dr. Crane, when otherwise I could not afford to do so. We are designing a omni-directional vehicle, the OmniGator, which will be able to move in any direction at any time, and rotate about any point in a 2-dimensional plane."

Steven is a senior majoring in mechanical engineering. His academic interests center on the kinematics design of mechanisms, and he is ,a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. His hobbies include playing guitar, computers and mountain biking.

Research Description:

Omnidirectional Vehicle Control Systems (OmniGator)

My USP project is focused on designing a software control system which can successfully control the steering and drive systems of a three-wheeled omnidirectional vehicle. The vehicle, named OmniGator, is intended to compete in the Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition, which hosts a competition for autonomous vehicles. OmniGator is an improvement over past vehicle designs because of its ability to move and/or rotate about any point desired. This capability is the final goal of the project and the program being written.
