"To be able to make a positive difference in the lives of people by altering the space around them is fascinating to me. Working with my mentor I had the opportunity to study the direct connection between law students and their environment. The results of the College of Law’s new design can potentially affect students, and I want to see first hand how effective was the pre-design research. The USP is a great way for me to test design processes and learn how design can positively affect people."

Research Description:
Student Perspectives of Schematic Design Proposals for the Levin College of Law
The College of Law has begun construction on a $22 million renovation of the law library and classrooms. During the pre-design programming, there was little student input. Students make up the largest group of consumers, but they complete their degrees in a few years. To gather student input I have created a preference survey for students to voluntarily fill out. The survey includes images and a three dimensional model of the proposed design, I hope to determine if the students’ needs for the new building were accurately predicted by design providers, researchers, and stakeholders. This will help me to determine if the current design process is effective.
