Jason Banks

2003 - 2004 University Scholar
Mentor: Kelly Cawthon

"I wanted to be part of the USP in order to develop my own sense of artistry in projection and lighting design and find my own way while working alongside professionals. It is my hope that by the end of the program, I will have evolved to a professional level yet still maintained the sense of academic interest that drives me to keep learning."

Jason is a senior majoring in lighting design. He is actively involved with the Florida Players organization working on productions. He received his associate’s degree from the Florida Community College of Jacksonville. Jason enjoys playing the guitar and creating visual art using a variety of mediums from acrylic paints to charcoal sculpting materials.

Research Description:

Spacial Incidents: Bringing Modern Dance to the Digital Era

Dance is in a constant state of development and change. As technology changes and develops in media, so does the face of modern dance. This project studies the bond forming in modern/experimental dance trends and digital media, and the intricate relationships these two very different types of performance have evolved. As dance is now taking to the aerial space above the stage, the use of projection technology within the development of this performance art is a natural progression, allowing something so simple as a moving sky for scenery or more intricate and expressive digital art.
