Research Description:

Standardizing Subcontractor Prequalification

Currently, a variety of forms developed by professional societies and contractor organizations are used for the prequalification of contractors and subcontractors. The time and effort required to fill out these forms is often extensive, hence avoided by many small subcontractors. In order to better facilitate the process benefiting both subcontractors and those who pre-qualify them, the Rinker School of Building Construction at the University of Florida is conducting a survey of the Engineering News Record's 2003 Top 400 Contractors in America, to determine the information that is currently collected for subcontractor pre-qualification. Information gathered will be used in making recommendations for standardizing the pre-qualification process. By standardizing the process we hope to significantly reduce, the time subcontractors take to complete the forms, as well as help improve the decision-making process.
